Description
Management Information Systems is the study of the use of computers in business. As such, students study both business and technology and learn how to solve business problems using information technology. Graduates learn how to solve problems and exploit business opportunities using technology as a key business driver. After learning about each key area of business, MIS students learn the tools they will apply to solve problems; learn how to apply those tools in any business situation; and learn how to manage the corporate information technology resources. Tools include computer hardware, operating systems, networking, programming, and database management systems. Application of the tools includes distributed information systems, system analysis, system design, and decision support systems. Management includes technology management and system implementation. Material covered in the classroom will be the same material needed to sit for up to six Professional Certifications. This program of study will prepare graduates for professional positions such as:

  • Systems Analyst
  • Application Support Analyst
  • Customer Support Analyst
  • Computer Programmer
  • Database Administrator
  • Technical Writer
  • Quality Assurance Analyst
  • Computer and Information Systems Manager
  • Computer and Data Processing Services

According to a study commissioned by the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), there has been a net increase of over 225,000 MIS positions in the USA during the past six months. Key to qualifying for these positions is training in both business and technology.
