6. MEDICAL ASSISTANT ONLINE CLINICAL PRECEPTORSHIP TRAINING FORM Student Responsibility for Locating an Approved Training/Externship Site

An integral part of the curriculum of the Online Medical Assistant Program is the Clinical Competency Training and Externship.  The Medical Assisting Department requires that all perspective students planning to enroll in the Online Medical Assistant Program are responsible for the following:

  • To locate and communicate with three potential clinical sites for the purpose of clinical preceptorship and then two consecutive months of externship.
  • To submit the required clinical site information to Online Coordinator no later than 60 days after enrollment.
  • The ensure that the potential site meets one of the following category:

    Internal Medicine
    Family Practice
    Urgent Care Center

  • To submit the signed contractual agreement from the potential clinical and externship site to the Online Clinical Coordinator.
Once the contract agreement has been signed by the site supervisor/physician, the Online Coordinator will contact the facility for further instructions and verification.

Student needs to understand that at their site for Clinical Competency Training they will be taught and trained for a period of 3 non-consecutive weeks within a 3 month period. Student will also be required to perform externship for a period of 8 consecutive weeks consisting a 40 hour work week. Noncompliance of the above responsibilities may result in the interruption and non-completion of the program.
