9. Pregnancy Policy

Who was your Admissions Counselor?

The essential purpose of the externship site is to provide an opportunity to utilize the skills in which student was trained, at a pace and in an environment approximating the demands of an employment situation. A supervised externship cannot, in any way, be constructed to be employed. Remuneration for the externship is not permitted.

If a student becomes pregnant at any time during the training cycle, the Program Director must be advised immediately. Each case will be reviewed by the Program Director and treated individually.

In any externship, a student may be exposed to patients with variety illnesses, viruses, and/or bacteria. In addition, a student may be required to lift and move patients which could be physically demanding. All of the above mentioned portions of an externship offer differing degrees of danger to a mother and/or fetus.

If a student becomes pregnant, then she may withdraw or postpone her studies until such time as she notifies the Program Director of her desire to reenter and she is cleared for the reentry by the Program Director.

Depending upon the duration of the pregnancy and the portion of the externship which remains, in certain cases, the student may wish to continue the externship. If the student wishes to continue, then she must notify the Program Director of her intent to continue. She must also provide, in writing, the step she will take for the protection of herself and the fetus, as well as obtaining the clearance of the Program Director.

Failure to notify the Program Director could result of dismissal and such conditions would not permit the student to reenter and complete the program.

Although it is both the practice and procedure of this program to offer the utmost in protection to the student, neither the school nor its externship sites will assume liability of the mother or unborn child.

Any information regarding a pregnancy will be held in strictest confidence.

I have read the above pregnancy policy and understand its content.
