Career Development

About Career Services

As a Keiser University student you are eligible to make use of the placement services offered by the Department of Student Services which include: assistance with updating your résumé, interviewing skills coaching, participation in professional development workshops, attendance at annual job fairs, on-campus recruiting by employers, and access to job opportunities posted to the online career center. As you approach graduation, you will work closely with the Department of Student Services to prepare you for your job search in your chosen field of study. International students must have the proper documentation to seek employment in the United States. Although Keiser University provides employment placement assistance, it cannot promise or guarantee employment.

Career Advisement

Career advising provides students with information regarding their chosen field of work and is available to students and graduates of Keiser University. Information consists of data collected from a variety of publications, web sites, personal interviews with employers, and general career studies publications. Students are assisted with determining their career goals and encouraged to formulate a career plan from this information. Students are advised of requirements of their individual career choices and are given tools to accomplish their goals. As a student of Keiser University you will also have access to the campus based career center which holds a variety of career development resources to prepare you for your job search. Here you will also have access to a computer for résumé creation and internet access to conduct research as part of your job search. You will be able to access job openings on the online career center as well as apply directly through positions of interest through the online career center site.

Résumé Writing and Job Interview Preparation

The Department of Student Services aids you in preparing your résumé if interested. You will be coached on how to present your school and work experience in a functional, chronological, or specialized résumé format. Prepared handouts and packets are available for use accompanied by a variety of books on résumé writing. The library has an extensive collection of career studies and planning publications that you are advised to utilize. When you bring your résumé to the Department of Student Services it will be reviewed and critiqued by an experienced career services professional and recommendations for revisions will be supplied. The Director of Student Services also conducts workshops and / or class presentations on these topics that you can participate in. Job interviewing skills are presented to interested upcoming graduates through discussions, seminars, and literature. Proper interviewing and follow-up techniques are presented to prepare you for the interview process. Mock interview sessions are available to coach you on professionalism, positive thinking, and ways to improve your individual presentation to potential employers.

    Students who go through this workshop should be able to construct a working résumé for a job search that will get read by an employer.

    Students who go through this workshop should be able to go on a job interview and have confidence in the process and themselves.
  • Networking Skills
    Students who go through this workshop should be able to develop a workable strategy to identify their existing network and how to use their network to gain contacts and job opportunities.
  • Money Management
    Students who go through this workshop should be able to set financial goals, understand budgeting, understand credit, and develop a plan to move towards financial security.
  • Study Skills
    Students who go through this workshop should be able to apply the tools provided to increase reading speed, reading comprehension, note taking, and determine their learning style.
  • Professionalism
    Students who go through this workshop should be able to clearly identify professional behavior and etiquette in the workplace, how to deal with difficult co-workers in a professional manner, image and behavior, and verbal and non-verbal communication that impacts professionalism and how others perceive you.
  • Time Management
    Students who go through this workshop should be able to understand how to effectively use a date book or calendar to plan, develop a to-do list, how to be proactive versus reactive, goal setting and timelines, identify procrastination behaviors, how to delegate, and how to determine your “hot” zone.

Online Career Center

As a Keiser University student you are eligible to take advantage of free registration to the online career center where you can create your personal job search profile including your résumé and view job openings throughout the State only accessible to KU students and alumni. You will be able to submit your approved résumé directly to employers and job openings 24/7. You will also be able to track employers who have reviewed your résumé so that you can follow up and stay active in your job search.
