The West Palm Beach Campus Crime Scene Technology students went on a field trip to the Treasure Coast Forensic Treatment Center in Martin County. This facility is for those who have been found not guilty by reason of insanity, or who are not yet mentally capable to proceed with trial.

The students were given a tour by Dr. Jennifer Knight. They saw an unoccupied wing and saw the types of rooms the in-custody patients are provided with. They were given the opportunity to meet with four patients who explained why they were in the center and how they were doing. They observed the staff handling the patients in a caring manner even under adverse conditions. Toward the end of the tour the CST students were given a tour of the mock courtroom that is also used sometimes for actual court proceedings.

The students were tasked by their instructor, Patrick Nicolello, to write a narrative report of their route to the facility and the tour itself.
