Commander Kim Kilpatrick, a twenty year veteran of the Port Orange Police Department, was the guest speaker at the recent Leadership Distinction Program. Cdr. Kilpatrick spoke about her role as a law enforcement officer, advancement opportunities, and challenges as a supervisor in a traditionally male dominated profession. With the Port Orange Police Department she has worked in animal control, patrol, investigations and internal affairs. She aspires to be a police chief someday, and hopes to soon attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
My instructors believed in me. They were more than instructors, they tried to get to know you as a person and tried to understand your goals so they could push you towards them. Student services helped me find a job before I even graduated. Everyone was dedicated to my overall success.
