Transforming lives, Building Independence is this years Occupational Therapy Month motto.  In short, OT practitioners help clients to “Live Life To It’s Fullest.”

Occupational Therapy Month began in 1980. It is celebrated in April each year to correspond with the American Occupational Therapy Association – AOTA’s Annual Conference & Expo.

This month, the very bright and engaging OTA students at the Daytona Beach campus, hosted an OT Month celebration.  The event included a variety of activities that focused on the difficulties some patients/clients may endure due to disability, illness, and/or injury while attempting to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) .  Participants were challenged with physical and visual deficits and various sensory impairments.  Each participant had an opportunity to learn how to complete the assigned tasks (dressing, wheelchair mobility, meal preparation, etc.) while using adaptive equipment and/or compensatory techniques and strategies.

Although the goal for the event was to increase knowledge of OT’s holistic and customized approach to evaluations, interventions and outcomes, the participants were quite entertaining and enjoyed themselves while competing for OT Month promotional prizes.   Thank you all for your support of our Occupational Therapy Assistant Program and OT Month activities.
