Computer Applications
Designed to provide you with the knowledge needed to design a customized database interface
James Warner
Melbourne, FL
I entered the Computer Applications class not knowing what to expect. I knew it was instruction on Microsoft Access and I knew Access was a database program, but that was it. I wondered why an administrator would have to build a database. This class gave me intimate knowledge of the power of Access. As I worked through the course I was astounded by what I was able to do with Access. Creating tables and making reports was only the beginning. Access is a complex application and this was not an easy class by any means. While the lectures focused on the work at hand, Professor Nadine Smith often broached subjects for discussion that were of a real-world nature. These discussions gave me an insight into the interpersonal aspects of managing a group of people, not just a group of computers. As a Network Administrator it will be my job to answer questions and solve problems that users have. Knowledge of the applications people use and of the people who use them is essential. Databases are one of the main functions of commercial computer networks and I feel that this course has given me a valuable tool to use in my career as a Computer Network Administrator.

Network and Operating System Essentials

I found the Net Op Essentials class to be one of the easier classes. I have not taken the Network+ test, but the class shows that anyone can understand basic networking principles. I really enjoyed this class.
It lays a great foundation for the future classes. Windows Pro and Server both require that the operator knows the basics of networking, as both operating systems rely heavily on networks to function at their maximum potential. Network+ gives you this groundwork so you can understand the advanced concepts used by higher end operating systems.

Windows Professional and Server

The class was instructed by Prof. K. Neighbor. First of all, the class overall was very informational and "full" (:-)). When I say "full", I mean that we had to cover a great, great deal of info. in a very short period of time. Also, I have to say that if it was not for the Prof., we would have been able to get through the class. The way in which the material was covered helped us a great deal to get through. This class helps us in the understanding and implementation of Windows 2000 Pro. and Server.

I learned things that paid off. This past Monday, I took the Microsoft certification exam for Windows 2000. I passed. I know several people that do networking for a living, they informed me that unless you do networking for a living, you do not stand a chance for passing the 70-210 exam. These people did not believe that online learning would contribute towards a certification from Microsoft. This was due to one of them failing. I proved them wrong. Lastly, I look forward to instructor Vest teaching online in the near future. I know that additional hard work, and studying will pay off again.

Everything learned in the class(es) will be helpful as my aim at a new career progresses. The classes as a whole are challenging, even to students who may already be involved in IT. There is so much to cover but with the help of the instructors and especially feedback from other students, grasping concepts which may have been elusive become clearer. The online format is definitely not for the faint of heart, but with persistence and dedication, it can be highly rewarding.

I have
been enrolled in Keiser since February 2002. I am studying to be a computer
network administrator. I took a class called Novell, NetWare 5.0. I was so
excited to have a chance to learn about a software system I had never even heard
of. Since that class I have had several job offers, all of whom were very
impressed that I knew how to work with this system. Keiser, in general, is the
best school I have ever been exposed to.
The Professors are very knowledgeable, and really spend a lot of time teaching
"real world" examples.
My name is Ellen Morris, a 28 year old single mother. I was always told that I had to "get out and work, and forget about school!" But then a special man in my life told me I need to get back to school, and find something that is right for me. Keiser has given me the chance to learn at my own pace. The Internet courses are wonderful, they give me a chance to maintain my job, take care of a child and prepare myself for the world!

Designing a Networking Services Infrastructure

I thought the course CIS 247-8 Designing a Networking Services Infrastructure was a definite success. Throughout the course the instructor was very helpful in answering questions and the class flowed smoothly. I now am enrolled in a BS program at the university of Phoenix. Given my age of 21 they would not have accepted me if it was not for the grades I was able to maintain at Keiser with the help of the instructors. They normally require one to be 23 years of age or older with previous college schooling. I thank Keiser for the opportunities presented to me and would recommend anyone to the AS in Computer Networking.

Interconnecting Technologies

The networking classes will help me to pursue a great future in computer networking and in the IT world since for the past 20 years or so I have always had a great love for computers and I spend about 50 to 55 hours a week on my computer. What has caused this big fascination in computers: ever since I was a small child, I always wanted to know what makes this and that work and when I had gotten any toys, I would look to take them apart to examine all of the working parts in them. If it was an electronic train for example that ran on batteries I would take out the motor and look at it and examine it very carefully to discover what made it work. In the late 70s, I took some classes in Cobol and Fortran that were tops at that time and the first computer I tinkered with was an IBM F3036 Mainframe system that filled up a small room. Still this same curiosity has remained in me all this time and now finally I will love being a big part of the computer industry.
I am married now with a very smart Daughter, who at only 2 1/2 years old already knows how to use a computer. She will take her CD disk of Reader Rabbit and put it in all without any help and when it starts, move the Mouse around and do all the activities on her own. She learned that by looking at me use my computer all of the time.
