The Fort Myers campus hosted its annual graduation ceremony in downtown Fort Myers. One hundred and eleven graduates walked across the stage and received their degrees. The ceremony started with the “Presentation of Colors” by the City of Fort Myers Police Department Honor Guard accompanied by the playing of “God Bless America” by artist bagpiper James Freeman. The commencement speaker was Mayor of Cape Coral, Marni Sawicki. She mentioned that she returned to graduate school as an adult, and she praised those who have continued their education, regardless of age. As the first woman elected as mayor of Cape Coral, she encouraged all to aim for big goals and to overcome barriers. She loved that our students and graduates are so involved in community service and leadership. Once again persistence was a theme! She says we should remember that no does not always mean no! Valedictorian, Diego Moreno (BS in Cyber Forensics/Info Security) with a 4.0 GPA, gave three points. He thanked Keiser University and offered gratitude to staff, faculty, and administration on behalf of the Class of 2015. He reminded us that persistence is the key through life’s obstacles, and he closed by saying that Keiser graduates are America’s future, and they must lead with knowledge, passion, involvement, and kindness. The audience and graduates totaled over 1,100 individuals. The victory tunnel with faculty and staff clapping for the graduates as they left the auditorium was well received and uplifting.
