Did you know sharks are over 400 million years old, which means they were on this planet before trees were! Unfortunately, their population is dwindling rapidly as humans kill over 100 million sharks annually. Sharks are in dire need of human protection, which the Fort Myers campus has twice teamed up with a local shark catch-tag-release team to contribute to. In fact, “Keiser” the tagged shark is presumably swimming in the Gulf somewhere at this very moment. Additionally, the KU Facebook page publication of those efforts led to a speaking engagement regarding best practices of catching, tagging and releasing of sharks for a local fishing organization. If small but meaningful efforts like those of Keiser University are made from everyone, these amazing apex predators will be around to swim to JAWS music to for years to come. Let’s all do our part to #SaveTheSharks! #SharkAwarenessDay
