Lakeland students in criminal justice and forensics courses attended a teen court session. The session was a grand jury session with 12 individual cases at the main courthouse in Bartow. They were able to observe teens judging teens on cases they had been charged with. These cases involved battery, drugs and retail theft. The sessions were done with a group of high school teens who had the charging documents and then asked the teen who was the defendant questions on why they were there and what they could have done differently. Overall it was a great opportunity to watch an alternative program being done to keep juveniles out of the regular criminal justice system.
