Melbourne’s diagnostic medical sonography program is working on enhancing interdepartmental collaboration between many of our allied health programs. The DMS students spent a day with occupational therapist assistant students. The OTA students taught the DMS group how to assist patients with wheelchair and gurney transfers, and then the DMS students took the OTA students into the lab and taught them about the field of sonography. On another day, the nursing students conducted a day-long class for the DMS and radiologic technology students, teaching them about sterile fields and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s).

The DMS students loved the experience. It will help them considerably when they reach the clinical environment and will also enhance their relationships with other personnel within the healthcare setting.
