Sixty-three students from the Nursing program attended a presentation on HCAHPS today. HCAHPS stands for the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems. This is a national, standardized and publicly reported patient satisfaction survey required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for all hospitals in the United States. The presenter was Angela Meridionale, the Patient Experience Manager at Broward Health Medical Center. The students were able to review the survey and discuss strategies on how to improve the patients perception of care. Personal stories were shared not only from the presenter but from the students on actual experiences in the hospital so the students could truly understand the patient experience.
