Obtaining Your Master’s in Nursing: What Are My Options?

Posted on July 18, 2014

Keiser University Graduate School offers online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)* programs:  The General MSN and the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).  Licensed Registered Nurses (RNs) with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university are eligible for the Masters’ programs.   There are specific admission requirements for each program and interested applicants may research each program by going to the Keiser University website (http://www.keiseruniversity.edu).

Both the MSN and the MSN FNP program at Keiser University have adopted Dr. Jean Watson’s philosophy and theory of human caring as the philosophical foundation of their Master’s curriculum.  Keiser University proposes to develop leaders in the healthcare industries who strive to advance the profession of nursing, grounded in caring holistically for self, others, and the profession

The online MSN program was first launched in September of 2011 and it prepares students for leadership in professional nursing practice and for holistic, patient-centered health care delivery.  In addition, MSN students learn critical thinking skills, culturally responsive communication and inter-professional collaboration.

Graduates of the MSN program are also prepared to continue their education in a post-master’s specialty nursing program or in a doctoral program.

The MSN FNP online program at Keiser University launched in January of 2014.  Registered nurses in this program are prepared with advanced nursing knowledge and clinical skills to serve the primary health care needs of patients across the lifespan.  MSN FNP students learn to promote health, to prevent injury and illness and to manage acute and chronic diseases.  During their clinical practicums, students have the opportunity to apply advanced clinical practice skills in real-world, primary health care environments.

Graduates from the MSN FNP program will be eligible to take an FNP national board certification examination with either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
