The Orlando chapter of the Student Veterans of America have instituted a program designed to recognize the outstanding individual or group who have best supported the SVA during the preceding year. This year’s award was given to Mr. Shaun Self, Human Resources at the Orlando VA Medical Center. The presentation ceremony was attended by the staff of several departments, the Director of the VA Medical Center Human Resources Department, as well as the Regional Director. Mr Dario Piedrahita (SVA President) and Ms. Ashleigh Hotaling (SVA Vice-President) are shown with the plaque presented to Mr. Self.”
Student veterans of American Vice-President, Ashleigh Hotaling and SVA President Dario Piedrahita present Eileen Puricelli and Desiree Pyle, from the Financial Aid Department in Orlando, with Certificates of Appreciation for their presentation on Student Veteran Financial Aid processing. Their presentation is part of a larger on-going schedule of guest speakers addressing the specific needs of the student veteran population. Previous presentations have included speakers from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Veterans Administration, Career Source Central Florida, and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
My instructors believed in me. They were more than instructors, they tried to get to know you as a person and tried to understand your goals so they could push you towards them. Student services helped me find a job before I even graduated. Everyone was dedicated to my overall success.
