Twenty five Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Forensic students and faculty attended “Law Day”. They visited with Bill Hardman of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office to learn about courtroom security and safety at the St. Lucie County Courthouse in Fort Pierce. They also met with Judge Nirlaine Smartt of the 19th Circuit; Robert Doty and Brad Morales, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office; Ginger Miranda of the Public Defender’s Office, Judge Philip Yaccuci of the 19th Circuit, and Jennifer Day of the State’s Attorney Office. Students took a behind the scenes tour of the courthouse, learned about the Public Defender and State’s Attorney duties, and learned how cases and inmates are processed.
My instructors believed in me. They were more than instructors, they tried to get to know you as a person and tried to understand your goals so they could push you towards them. Student services helped me find a job before I even graduated. Everyone was dedicated to my overall success.
