The Miami psychology students led an activity at the local senior center, in partnership with the City of Sweetwater, to enhance short-term and long-term memory. Students helped seniors make hand-made memory books with their photos, milestones, and life lessons to activate and preserve their memories. Mental exercises like this can help seniors improve their memory skills. Activities such as writing, cutting, and pasting also help maintain hand and eye coordination, and fine motor movement. The activity also helped trigger memories and initiated conversations between participants and students.  Keeping seniors involved in social interactions while completing the activity helped them feel more connected. Both the students and the senior center participants were looking forward to the next event.
