This term was an exciting and relaxing time to be a member of the COGSM campus in Port St. Lucie. Students from the Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology and Exercise Science programs put together a weeklong series of events designed to help everyone on campus have an outlet for stress relief.

The event series was pioneered by the Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology & Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science students led by instructor Matt Graifer as part of their Sports Marketing and Promotions class. They were tasked with developing an event, promoting it, executing it, and conducting research on it as their course project for the month. The students spent many hours preparing an event series suited towards their particular campus population that offered a variety of stress relieving activities including a stress management seminar, a game day, a yoga class, and a health fair all surrounding a Happy Gilmore theme. The series was well attended with over 60 participants.

The health fair is an annual tradition run by Program Director Julie Snyder and put on by both the Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science students. For four years students have had an opportunity to use many of their clinical skills to inform the campus population about health, exercise, and wellness.

At the end of the week, the event staff raffled off a plethora of great prizes including 2 free rounds of golf with golf cart included. All in all, everyone that participated in any of the week’s events got to put their stressors to the side and find their happy place even if it was only for a while.
