How to Give a Better Presentation

Being a student at Keiser University means that at some point in time you will have to get up and give a presentation in front of fellow students, as well as staff members. For some students, getting up in front of others can make them feel nervous for a variety of reasons. Whether those reasons are rooted in past experiences or lack of experience, there are things you can do to improve your skills.

Some of the things you can do to improve your skills are easy to accomplish and won’t take up very much of your time. Making sure you are dressed well is not only important for looking professional but it can also give you a boost of confidence and therefore make your presentation look and feel more natural. Equally important is the subject that you have chosen. When delivering a presentation, it helps to have chosen a topic that you are passionate about.

Making sure that you focus on your core message will help you avoid getting off topic and confusing your audience. Incorporating things like bolding key terms on a power point slide show that you want to make sure you discuss or having note cards with key concepts will help keep what you are trying to relay well organized. While you can find many tips on how to better present, one of the best things to do is to practice. Professor Khory, a speech professor with Keiser University said, “I come from an acting background and through my experience I have learned that repetition is key”.
