This policy is presented to each student
in conformance with Section 438 of the General Education Provisions Act
(Title IV of Public Lax90-247 as amended), added by Sections 513 P.L. 93380
(enacted August 21, 1974) and amended by Senate Joint Resolution 40. If a
student is below legal age, this document is presented to the students�
parent or guardian. This law provides access by a student (or by a parent
or guardian if a student is below legal age) to the personal record files of
a student as kept by the University.
The University maintains two types of
student record files: academic and financial. Students may examine of these
records at any time during normal University hours. For academic records,
students should contact the Registrar. For financial records, students
should contact a school official in the accounting department.
As an exception to this law providing
availability of personal records to a student, the following information is
kept confidential and is not available to a student and/or his parents or
guardians.
1.
Recommendations of the student by outside received by the University
and filed prior to January 1, 1975.
2.
Confidential financial records of the parents, unless written
permission has been given by the parents to divulge such information to the
student.
Students are entitled to receive one
transcript of their academic record free of charge. A fee of $5.00 is
charged for each additional transcript.
Material considered to be objectionable
may be expunged from a student�s record under any one of the following
conditions:
1.
The student furnishes the University with factual data that
satisfactorily proves to an official of the University that the information
originally placed in the file is incorrect.
2.
The student corrects the situation which caused the objectionable
entry to be made in the file, provided that such correction is to the
complete satisfaction of the University official who made the original
entry.
3.
The student appeals a decision made by a University official by
requesting a hearing before a panel of three persons. Such a panel must
consist of two University officials and one person selected by the student.
This panel must meet within seven days of the date a student requested a
hearing. Decisions reached by this panel are considered final.
