Ms. Snow Cirilo, a faculty member from the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program at the Fort Lauderdale campus approached Dr. Rodriguez from the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program with a plan to have the PTA students demonstrate a few stretches to the DMS students.  This initial plan quickly grew into a full scale postural analysis of the DMS work area along with specific exercises and postural correction recommendations.  The interprofessional event began with the DMS and PTA students describing their respective professions to each other.  The DMS students simulated a patient case to allow the PTA students to analyze real life postures experienced by sonographers.  The PTA students provided feedback on postural corrections as well as work area adjustments that could be made to minimize injury.  The session concluded with the PTA students guiding DMS students through stretching exercises for muscles commonly injured as a result of poor posture.
