Keiser University nursing students assist with vaccine distribution at Lakeland Regional Hospital

LAKELAND, Fla. – More than a dozen nursing students from Keiser University Lakeland have volunteered to assist Lakeland Regional Hospital (LRH) with the administration of the lifesaving COVID-19 vaccine.

“This is a critical time in the pandemic recovery, and this is just one of the ways Keiser University can support Florida’s recovery efforts,” said Arthur Keiser, Chancellor and CEO of Keiser University. “We are honored to step in and provide pandemic recovery assistance in Lakeland and throughout the state to help save Floridians’ lives.”

The volunteer opportunity became available to the Keiser students following a call for assistance with vaccine delivery from the Florida Department of Health in Polk County. Keiser University Lakeland was ideally situated to assist due to is affiliation agreement with LRH which serves as a clinical rotation site for Keiser University nursing students.

“We are happy to have been asked to participate and help in this historical event,” said Andrea Vanorio, nursing program director at Keiser University Lakeland. “This is a great experience for Keiser’s nursing students to be able to give back and make a difference at a time when such service is needed.”

In recent weeks, states throughout the country have requested assistance from nursing students, medical assistants, and first responders to help in vaccination efforts to free up healthcare workers battling the pandemic. In addition to the assistance being provided, the opportunity gives Keiser nursing students frontline learning experience in a pandemic recovery operation.

Keiser University Lakeland nursing students will continue to administer the under guidance and supervision from LRH and the Florida Department of Health.
