On Friday, December 5, 2025, Keiser University’s Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program hosted its Graduate Research Symposium on the 3rd floor of the Fort Lauderdale campus library. The event brought together students, faculty, and guests to celebrate academic excellence and explore innovative, community-focused occupational therapy projects.
MSOT students presented a range of engaging, evidence-based programs designed to address real-world challenges across diverse populations. One featured project, Adaptive Love, is a five-week community-based program supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries as they navigate dating, intimacy, self-confidence, and body image. Developed under the guidance of Dr. Christina Sanford, the program emphasizes social participation and meaningful connection.
Another standout presentation was the Neurodivergent Parenting Support Program, an eight-week intervention focusing on emotional regulation, communication, organization, and social-emotional connection for neurodivergent parents. This project, advised by Dr. Laura Reyes, highlighted the importance of strengthening daily occupations and family well-being through structured, evidence-based strategies.
Students also introduced a Mental Health Support Program for Graduate Students, led by Dr. Husny Amerih, which features a digital education initiative including podcasts and short videos. The program is designed to help graduate students better understand anxiety and integrate coping strategies into their daily routines.
Additionally, The Better at Home Program, overseen by Dr. Marek Graczkowski, focused on older adults living independently or in senior communities. This five-week program promotes fall prevention, home safety, adaptive equipment use, and energy conservation through hands-on training and functional activities.
The MSOT Graduate Research Symposium demonstrated the dedication, creativity, and clinical innovation of Keiser University students and faculty. Through these projects, students are already making a meaningful impact on individuals, families, and communities- reflecting the university’s continued commitment to excellence in education, scholarship, and service.
