Keiser University’s Fort Lauderdale campus placed No. 8 on Niche’s 2027 Safest College Campuses in Florida list [1]. If you are comparing colleges, that result may be one more detail to consider. Below, we explain how the list works, share our campus safety resources, and show where to check public data.
What You Should Know Before You Start
How much should campus safety factor into choosing a college?
Campus safety deserves a place on your list next to academics, cost, location, and student support. When you feel secure where you study, it is easier to focus and stay on track toward your goals. Although campus safety might not be the deciding factor when selecting a college, it is a fair question to ask, and safety rankings are one way to compare schools. So, it’s important to ask what campus safety measures are in place.
“Keiser University Fort Lauderdale has been ranked the #8 safest campus in Florida in Niche’s 2026-2027 report, marking the tenth consecutive year we have placed in the state’s top ten. A ranking like this reflects the daily care and ownership of our campus leaders, Campus Response Team members, faculty, staff, and security officers, who treat the safety of our campus community as their personal responsibility. Behind every safe day on campus are countless hours of planning, training, and quiet vigilance that are woven into how we operate.”

How are college safety rankings determined?
Safety rankings usually combine published safety information with other measures that the ranking organization chooses. Each organization decides how much weight every measure carries, so two rankings can place one school in different spots. Before you compare schools, read how the ranking was categorized. Then you can decide what matters most to you.
What should students look at beyond the ranking itself?
Look at how a campus handles safety day to day. Ask about security services, how students are alerted in an emergency, and how staff respond to incidents. Visiting the campus tells you things a ranking cannot, and most schools, like Keiser University, arrange visits through an admissions counselor or hold Open House events for prospective students. Gather those details for each school on your list, and compare them side by side.
