Accounting Degree Program Overview

Keiser University’s accounting programs teach students how to prepare financial statements, analyze financial data, and apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) across various business operations. Coursework covers financial accounting fundamentals, tax accounting, cost accounting, and risk management while introducing students to accounting information systems and data management tools used by accounting professionals.
 
Students take courses in intermediate accounting I and II, learning to create detailed financial reports and interpret financial information for business decisions. The program includes training in auditing procedures, tax law, internal controls, and compliance with regulations from bodies like the Securities and Exchange Commission. Students also explore managerial accounting techniques used by management accountants to support strategic planning and resource allocation.

Program Mission

The Bachelor of Arts in Accounting degree program at Keiser University exists to prepare students for accounting careers in both public and private sectors by providing advanced knowledge of profession-related concepts and skills needed across various accounting specialty areas.

Program Goals

Students completing this accounting degree program will demonstrate knowledge of accounting, tax, and business concepts and standards as they apply to various areas within the field. They develop proficiency in the use of software applications and enhance their research and communication skills by utilizing professional publications in the preparation of financial information. In addition, students learn to apply ethical, regulatory, and professional standards to real-world accounting situations, while also demonstrating the application of specialized accounting knowledge and skills gained through their chosen concentration.

Prerequisites

Before beginning upper-division accounting major courses, students must complete Microeconomics (3.0 credit hours), Macroeconomics (3.0 credit hours), and Statistics (3.0 credit hours).

Program Highlights

The accounting degree program offers four concentration options: General Concentration for broad accounting knowledge, Accounting Analytics for data-focused roles, Fraud Examination for investigative careers, and International Accounting for global finance positions. Students gain hands-on experience with professional accounting software and learn from faculty with real-world expertise in public accounting, corporate finance, and government accounting.

Required and Optional Fees for Programs: Fees are costs set by the university in addition to tuition (and room and board, if applicable). These fees may be required for your program or optional depending on the courses you take, and they support the costs associated with completing an approved program of study. Technology Requirement

This program uses several business and accounting related software programs in the courses, including Microsoft Office. Students must have access to a PC with a Windows based operating system, internet connection, and the ability to download software programs and data files. Students also need to be able to listen to student presentations and present material to the class (headset preferred).
