Animation and Game Design, BS Overview

Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Animation and Game Design covers the full scope of what it takes to create professional-quality games and animated media. Students study the fundamentals of art and design alongside the technical demands of game technology, including 3D modeling, character rigging, animation techniques, game engines, and programming. The program also covers production workflows from pre-production through final delivery, giving students direct experience in how studios actually create and ship games. Small class sizes at Keiser mean students get real attention from faculty, and the curriculum connects classroom learning to industry expectations at every stage.

Program Mission

The Animation and Game Design program at Keiser University dedicates itself to preparing students for successful careers in interactive digital media fields, including video game design, production, 3D modeling, and animation. The program’s mission centers on ensuring students gain essential knowledge and practical skills in interactive media theory and processes. The program commits to fostering students’ professional and academic growth, empowering them to become lifelong learners and valuable contributors to the interactive media industry.

Program Goals

  1. Students will apply skills in 3D modeling and animation, level design, programming languages and interactive storytelling.
  2. Students will apply practical skills and demonstrate knowledge of interactive media theory and processes, enabling their professional and academic growth throughout their careers.
  3. Students will demonstrate the ability to think critically and communicate effectively while applying creative problem solving.
  4. Students will demonstrate knowledge, and the application of practical skills required for successful careers in interactive digital media related fields such as video game design and production as well as 3D modeling and animation.

Prerequisites

Students entering upper division courses must complete the following lower division courses first:

  • 3D Texturing (3.0 credit hours)
  • 3D Modeling Techniques (3.0 credit hours)
  • 3D Animation Techniques (3.0 credit hours)
  • Level Design (3.0 credit hours)

All lower division major and general education courses must receive passing grades before students begin upper division coursework.

Program Highlights

Students in the Animation and Game Design program work with industry-standard software and game engines from the start of the program. The curriculum covers both 2D and 3D workflows, so graduates come out with a range of skills that apply across game development, film, and digital media. Upper division courses move into full production team environments, simulating the collaborative studio experience students can expect in their careers. Elective options let students customize their path, with courses in mobile application development, project management, and internship opportunities that add real-world experience to their degree.
