Cybersecurity, BS Overview

Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity covers the full range of skills needed to protect organizations, critical infrastructure, and cyberspace from modern cyber risks. The degree program spans network security, cloud security, operating systems, data management, security protocols, and cyber defense, giving students both foundational knowledge and specialized technical skills suited for the cybersecurity industry. With concentrations in Information Assurance and Digital Defense, students focus on either governance, risk, and compliance frameworks or hands-on penetration testing, ethical hacking, and forensic investigation. The program produces graduates ready to protect sensitive information, respond to security incidents, and pursue professional certifications that open career paths across both the public and private sectors.

Program Mission

The mission of the Keiser University Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity degree program is to prepare students to protect people, organizations, countries and cyberspace from cyber risks and threats. The program promotes business empathy, situational awareness, intelligence gathering, critical thinking, adaptability, continual learning and holistic views of enterprise risk management. Cyber risk governance, identification, protection, detection, response and recovery principles are examined. Program graduates are prepared to obtain diverse cyber-related roles, take professional certification examinations and participate in community-based cyber service activities.

Program Goals

  1. To establish student awareness of cyber risk management techniques, roles, business/cyber relationships, internal/external cyber risk factors and cyber career path growth.
  2. To inform students about essential assurance, governance, and regulatory/contractual compliance practices pertaining to cyber risk management.
  3. To enhance student ability in assessing cyber risk governance, identification, protection, detection, response and recovery needs in critical infrastructure (CI) sectors and other organizations
  4. To equip students with skills for design and development of operational and strategic cybersecurity plans, policies and procedures for use in various risk-based scenarios.

Prerequisites

  • Entering students must achieve a Wonderlic score (or comparable) of 18 or above for entrance to the program;
  • Lower division courses must be successfully completed before beginning upper division major courses (Course equivalency is established by the dean of academic affairs from official transcripts received from accredited institutions).

Program Highlights

  • Students choose between two concentration tracks: Information Assurance and Digital Defense. Both tracks prepare students for professional certification exams and entry-level cybersecurity jobs across a wide range of industries.
  • The Information Assurance Concentration covers governance, risk and compliance, identity access management, privacy, and secure development operations.
  • The Digital Defense Concentration includes digital media forensics, network forensics, ethical hacking, and network defense and countermeasures.
  • Flexible class schedule options; choose online, on-campus, or hybrid learning.

Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity prepares students to enter the cybersecurity field as skilled cybersecurity professionals ready to identify, assess, and counter cyber threats facing organizations today. Covering both foundational and advanced topics, the curriculum addresses network security, cloud security, operating systems, data management, ethical hacking, and vulnerability management. Students choose between the Information Assurance Concentration or the Digital Defense Concentration, allowing them to specialize in governance, risk, and compliance or in hands-on cyber defense and penetration testing. I loved that Keiser University focused on one class per month. I feel I gained a lot from this because there were no distractions from other subjects in the same period of time.
