As a United States Navy Petty Officer, Keiser University Sarasota Campus graduate George Elliott is thankful to apply knowledge gained toward the combat of terrorism.

Elliott recently shared details of the specific classes that have jump-started his mission to serve, currently as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Handling Petty Officer First Class who holds the positions of Assistant Anti-terrorism Training and Flight Deck Officer.

“Courses at Keiser University provided comprehensive insights into strategic planning, crisis management, threat assessment, and homeland security policy, enabling me to implement evidence-based practices, develop robust training programs, and improve operational readiness within my unit. The skills and knowledge acquired have significantly elevated my leadership and effectiveness in managing anti-terrorism initiatives,” said Elliott, who first joined the Navy in 2012.

Now working out of Bahrain while stationed in Virginia, Elliott shared that he saw value in Keiser University’s General Studies and Homeland Security degrees, as he knew they would further strengthen his contributions. “Pursuing a degree in Homeland Security was a natural progression, stemming directly from my professional responsibilities. Initially serving as an Anti-terrorism Training Supervisor, and now as an Assistant Anti-terrorism Training Officer, I chose this academic path to enhance my knowledge and effectiveness in my role, deepening my understanding of the complexities related to national and global security,” he said.

Fellow students and campus leaders are not surprised by Elliot’s dedication to service and career success.

“George is one of those people who make you feel lucky to have met them.  He is a natural leader but leads in such a humble manner.  You don’t need to know him for long to understand that it is evident that service to his country and others is at his core.  We are so proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of his educational journey…and, it is not over yet,” said Keiser University Sarasota Campus President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Michele Morgan.

While thanking the many professional leaders within the Navy who have supported his career growth, Elliott looks forward to expanded assignments, both in the military and civilian life.

“As I continue to grow professionally, my immediate goal is to further my responsibilities within anti-terrorism and homeland security, eventually transitioning into broader roles that impact policy-making and strategic operations at a higher level. Additionally, I aim to actively contribute to community initiatives, fostering civil-military relations and advocating for veterans. I remain committed to lifelong learning, intending to pursue advanced educational opportunities that will enhance my expertise and leadership capacity, enabling me to make sustained, positive contributions to national security and community resilience,” said Elliott, while reflecting on the academic and professional strides he’s made. “My journey toward higher education was initially hindered by procrastination for about 10 years. However, when I finally took the step to pursue my degree, it was profoundly rewarding. Walking across the stage for graduation was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. I attribute much of my success to the exceptional support from the teachers and faculty at Keiser University. Special recognition goes to Dr. Newport and Jennifer Barbaro, whose unwavering support and encouragement were crucial in managing my responsibilities as a deployed service member and a full-time student. To those striving to achieve their goals, I strongly recommend embracing perseverance and resilience, taking that first step, and seeking support from mentors and educators who believe in your potential. The fulfillment you experience when achieving your goals makes every effort worthwhile,” he said.
