Sarenna and Rebecca Oliveira look forward to continuing their love for learning as they pursue their goal to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees together at Keiser University’s Port St. Lucie Campus.

The home study group will also include an additional family member, as their younger brother, Luis, also attends Keiser University’s Flagship campus as a second-year Applied Engineering student. “Very soon our kitchen table will be filled with the three of us working on school work together,” said Rebecca. “We moved to Florida together, bought our home together, and even got engaged in the same year together, and our bond isn’t just strong between the two of us but our little brother as well,” she added.

Inspired by the clinical team who cared for their family members while growing up, the sisters, originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, shared that they always knew they would someday serve the field of healthcare and now look forward to continuing their educational journey together after relocating to Florida’s Treasure Coast in 2023.

“We love school and learning, so when we were presented the opportunity to further our education together, we couldn’t give that chance up,” said Rebecca.

Having supported one another throughout their lives, the siblings acknowledge the rigor of their academic programs and are thankful they have each other to lean on.

“We plan to work hard together to reach our goals, whether it is group study or taking turns playing patient and nurse. Also, we can tell when the other is on the verge of burnout. Being there for one another as mental support and encouragement is important to us,” said Sarenna, who has already earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion and Wellness with a minor in Psychology from Holy Family University in 2021.

With the goal of becoming Registered Nurses, Sarenna and Rebecca imagine a wide range of opportunities after graduation, possibly beginning as travel nurses and volunteers, and one day opening a practice together. “Working anywhere we could make a valuable difference is the goal,” said Rebecca, who earned her Pennsylvania State University Health Administration Certification and Associate of Science degree in Health Science in 2016 and her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2018, followed by her Prism Career Institute certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing in 2019.

The pair advises others to persevere, while remaining close to those who love and support them. “Make sure you’re prepared to make sacrifices and don’t be afraid to rely on someone other than yourself. It’s okay to be afraid, but don’t let it be what stops you. Let it be what drives you,” smiled Sarenna.

Keiser University Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates will be prepared to provide compassionate, patient-centered, culturally competent nursing care to individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations in a variety of settings, using evidence-based knowledge and skills related to wellness, health promotion, illness, disease management, and end-of-life care to improve healthcare outcomes. They will practice in partnership with patients as members and leaders of interprofessional healthcare teams, utilizing the most current healthcare technologies. Successful completion of this program qualifies graduates to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam.
