USA Football, a member of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the sport’s governing body, has included four Keiser University Seahawk Flag Football Team members as part of its initial 2024 U.S. Women’s Flag Football National Team roster.
Kennedy Foster, Brianna Hernandez-Silva, Ashlea Klam and Brenna Ramirez have been named part of the 18-person roster to compete in the 2024 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Flag Football World Championship, in Lahti, Finland in August. The challenge, which the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) expects to be its largest to date, will feature the best teams from around the world as determined by the IFAF’s 2023 Continental Championships, which headlined the international governing body’s biggest-ever cycle of global flag football competition.
While recently sharing her thoughts relating to Women’s History Month, Klam, the first co-captain for the 2022 USA Junior National team, the youngest member of the 2023 USA Football Women’s U.S. National team, and a USA Football Board Member, said that she’s thankful to excel as a female athlete in a male-dominated sport. “I hope that I can be a role model to all the younger generations of female flag athletes by showing them that it is possible to dominate on a football field as a woman,” she said.
Klam shared that her faith has guided her toward ‘amazing people and places,’ and also credits her close-knit group of supporters. “Trusting that God has my path written and that I just need to follow what he has in store for me has helped me get through everything. Trusting my parents, coaches, teammates, and peers has also allowed me to stay focused on my goals,” she said while recognizing her mother Amberly Klam as a significant mentor. “ Whatever path I was on, she was right there protecting me and making sure my goals were achieved,” she said.
