Keiser University Lakeland Student Turns Love of Science Into Career in Healthcare

Meagan Palm has spent her entire life seeing firsthand how important education can be. Both her grandmother and her mother were educators, and Palm quickly followed in their footsteps to become a high school science teacher. She took her job seriously, wanting to make a difference in the lives of her students, but after five years of teaching, she felt that she was ready for more. Palm enrolled in Keiser University Lakeland’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (ABSN) with hopes of feeding her love of knowledge.

“I’ve always loved science, and nursing, and eventually I just wanted to do something to further my career,” Palm said.

Keiser University’s College of Nursing Accelerated Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (ABSN) is a pre-licensure degree program for those wishing to complete a program of study in professional nursing. At the conclusion of the program, graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) and will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam to become licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse.

In her time at Keiser University, Palm said that she has learned more than she ever thought she would. Preparing for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam is perhaps one of the biggest aspects of the program, and thanks to the student-centered philosophy of professors at Keiser University, Palm said that she feels well prepared.

“I think that anybody who is looking for an accelerated nursing program, this is a great place to come,” Palm said. “The professors really care about you, and they will get you through [the program].”

Palm is currently interning as an ICU trauma nurse and said that after graduation she hopes to retain a permanent position as a trauma nurse at Lakeland Regional Hospital.

Keiser University is a private, independent, non-profit university serving nearly 20,000 students at 21 Florida campuses, online, and two international sites.
