Nursing students in Cohort 39 at the Melbourne campus delivered their group projects on the 2016 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). These goals, developed by the Joint Commission, give healthcare institutions guidance in issues affecting patient safety and drives strategies to reduce medical errors and improve client outcomes. Each group of students presented information on the safety concern; its impact on patients and their families, health workers, health institutions, and society; and interventions utilized by local facilities to reach the safety goals. Some highlights of the presentations included objects left inside patients during surgical procedures, preventions of patient suicides, and proper use of alarms. Students created games, crossword puzzles, and other activities to get each other participating in learning about patient safety issues.
