Occupational Therapy Assistant Students Receive a Guest Lecture on the Physical Agent Modalities

At the Daytona campus the OTH 2420 – Occupational Therapy for the Physically Disabled class welcomed guest lecturer, Mr. Larry Fortunato, PT,DPT, CEAA of ACP, A Hanger Company.  Mr. Fortunato provided the class with lecture/instruction and hands-on demonstration on the Physical Agent Modalities (PAMS), namely the use ultrasound and electrical stimulation.  At the end of the day, students understood the competencies required of a COTA to utilize PAMs with client’s while ensuring safety and adherence to contraindications and precautions.  They are also learned how to select appropriate treatment modalities for clients with Upper Extremity injuries that will aid in improving the client’s daily occupational performance.
