Meghan Fox-Ritchie, MS, MS, LMHC, Psy.D.(c) provided a virtual conference titled “Awareness and Cultural Sensitivity in Educating the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing” to Latin Division, E-campus faculty. The virtual conference focused on educating the faculty about culturally sensitive terminology in referring to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing (D/HoH) population (e.g. using only the words “deaf”, “hard-of-hearing” and “the person has hearing loss”) and adaptations that can be made to better accommodate D/HoH students/individuals. Related technologies (e.g. Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART), C-Print) that can increase access to information for D/HoH students/individuals were also explored.
