The Miami campus OTA students participated in the “Aging in Place: The Golden Years” poster showcase.  The students were asked, as part of a class activity, to interview an elder living in the community and perform a safety home assessment in order to determine if the elders were at risk of any preventable accidents.  Additionally, the students created useful tools or modified common household items to facilitate daily living or treat dysfunctions.  By assessing the obstacles that impede independent living, making recommendations, and creating assistive devices, these OTA students helped elders in the community live healthier and safer lives. The students were also responsible for setting up the rooms used for their displays and providing light snacks and drinks for their guests to enjoy. All students on campus visited the rooms where the OTA students presented each of their projects.
