The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office hosted Sgt. Thomas Larson who delivered a compelling presentation on his experiences while supervising the Child Protection Investigator (CPI) Unit to Tampa’s Protective Services class at the Tampa campus. CPI’s investigate all reports of child abuse and neglect that are reported in Hillsborough County, Florida. Sgt. Larson discussed the process for being hired as a CPI and the type of people the Sheriff’s Office is looking for to fill the many (20 or 30) vacancies they currently have in his unit. He discussed the training, certifications, and challenges that go along with the position. He shared several actual cases in which he personally investigated, and showed many crime scene photographs.
My instructors believed in me. They were more than instructors, they tried to get to know you as a person and tried to understand your goals so they could push you towards them. Student services helped me find a job before I even graduated. Everyone was dedicated to my overall success.
