Lakewood High School came to the Clearwater  campus to visit the Surgical Technology, Nursing, and Medical Assisting labs.  In the Medical Assisting lab the students were introduced to venipuncture, which is the method to obtain blood from a patient thru the vein. Students watched demonstrations and were able to demonstrate what they learned on the dummy arms in the lab. The Nursing department gave brief lectures on nursing careers and the different components of the nursing program.  Additionally, the students participated in a hand-washing demonstration; listening to lung, heart, and bowel sounds on the patient simulator; and swaddling an infant. Surgical Technology demonstrated an abdominal procedure and showed students how to drape the patient, properly pass instruments to the surgeon, and dress an incision site.
