Students in the Fort Myers Occupational Therapy Program participated in the Homeless Service Day and Veterans Stand Down.  The events were sponsored by the Lee County Homeless Coalition. This event provided a variety of services including food, hygiene kits, haircuts, medical care, VA benefits, and consultations referrals for substance abuse addictions, and mental health counseling to people who are homeless. Students found it to be an eye-opening experience. It was extremely humbling and highly educational to survey these individuals and hear their stories. It was also a great opportunity for students to identify the occupational needs of the community.  Janet Bartos from the Lee County Homeless Coalition says that approximately 421 people attended along with 325 volunteers.
