Keiser University’s College of Chiropractic Medicine Receives $41K Donation

Keiser University’s College of Chiropractic Medicine (KUCCM) is the recipient of a sizable donation to its chiropractic research fund.  More than $41,000 was raised for research projects on a specialized form of chiropractic manipulation, known as Cox Flexion Distraction. The gift was initiated from Cox® Technic chiropractic physicians throughout the past few years.

On Saturday, September 29, 2018, KUCCM will host a Cox® Technic two day seminar, in West Palm Beach, at which time a “Big Check Ceremony – Wine & Cheese Celebration” will be held to celebrate the commemorative occasion. All seminar attendees are welcome to attend.

Keiser University’s Chancellor, Dr. Arthur Keiser, expressed his gratitude, “We are honored to be the recipient of this generous donation from Cox® Technic to perform research of this caliber, benefitting our students, the field of chiropractic medicine, and public health.”

The bequest will be added to the existing restricted fund for chiropractic research on Cox manipulation and will further contribute to important chiropractic research. The initial funds were raised by the Cox Flexion Distraction Club at Keiser University, with Dr. Ralph Kruse as the Academic Advisor. Additionally, Dr. James Cox, originator of the procedure,  offered royalties from sales of his textbook to the research fund.

“The performance of this research is essential for the training of future doctors of Chiropractic Medicine who are receiving an advanced and unprecedented education. The results of our clinical studies are aimed to benefit the health of the general public, prevent unnecessary spinal surgeries, prevent dangerous falls in the elderly, and help reduce the occurrence of opioid dependence,” said Dr. Ralph Kruse, who after 30 years of private practice, is a researcher and one of the core team of Cox® Technic instructors, and an assistant professor at Keiser University’s College of Chiropractic Medicine.

Top priority projects will be initiated immediately with Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications being prepared for approvals to proceed with the projects. The most immediate project is a prospective study on post-surgical continued spinal pain patients presenting to Cox certified Doctors of Chiropractic. A pilot study for this project was initiated by Dr. Ram Gudavalli at a previous chiropractic facility with funds specifically raised to conduct this project.

Another priority study involves the training and long term follow-up of chiropractic students and field practitioners in the delivery of the technique to the spine. Measurements regarding the reliability of achieving specific pressures during Cox Flexion Distraction, as well as high velocity low amplitude manipulations of chiropractic students, will be utilized to assess and train students.

Mrs. Percy and Mr. Williams believed in me. They were more than instructors, they tried to get to know you as a person and tried to understand your goals so they could push you towards them. And Mrs. Crawford from student services helped me find a job before I even graduated. She was dedicated to my overall success.

Going to Keiser University was one of the greatest experiences in my life. All of my deans, professors, and staff made me feel that I was a part of something very special, and I am. I would recommend for anyone to get their education at Keiser University.

The two instructors that have impacted my life are Mr. Williams and Mrs. Percy. Both of them believed in my ability to become a great graphic designer, regardless of how I felt about my skills. I appreciate their motivation to get me to where I am today.

Beyond the curriculum of the courses, the lessons the instructors have taught me have paid dividends in my real work experiences. How to respond to criticisms, project and time management, interview skills, the list goes on and on. At the end of the day, they not only showed me how to design, but they taught me how to be a professional.

Ryan Bushey

If not for my education at Keiser I probably would not be where I am today, in both life and career. It is because of going to Keiser and the instructors I had that I joined a club started by Mr. Williams, The Lakeland Shooters Photography Group, which allowed me to venture into an amazing and very creative field that I use to enhance all aspects of my life.

It has been great attending and graduating from Keiser University.  Because of the small class sizes, I was able to build good relationships with classmates and professors.  The PA professors care very much about the progress and success of the students and have been great advisors every step of the way through the program.

Keiser helped change my life by getting my education at the right school! I had been going to another school before, I dropped out because I felt that I was not getting enough information. When I found out about Keiser, I was pleased because the instructors were great.
