Keiser University Prepares to Unveil Marching Band

The group will blend corps and big ten styles.

Keiser University’s Flagship Campus will officially unveil its inaugural Seahawk Nation Marching Band in the fall of 2018. The ensemble will debut along with Keiser University’s Seahawk football team. Those students interested in joining the initiative should contact Dr. Andrew Hayward at [email protected].

“We are going to create a unique musical experience for our students that will be different from other marching ensembles in Florida,” said Dr. Andrew Hayward, Band Director, of the entertaining and energetic group which is slated to blend corps and big ten styles. “My goal is to take the field with 100 members this fall. With the enthusiasm we have been receiving at local high schools, I am confident that we will be able to fulfill our vision,” added Hayward who is also planning to add a concert band and competitive indoor groups providing students additional opportunities to perform.

Throughout the preceding months a pep band will be organized to play at campus events.

“As we continue to expand our Keiser University athletic and academic programs, the timely addition of a Keiser University Marching Band is a perfect fit, and will further propel the strong spirit of Seahawk students that we’ve come to know and love,” said Keiser University Flagship Campus President Dr. Gary Vonk.

Dr. Andrew Hayward has been active in the marching arts as a performer, educator, designer, and adjudicator for over twenty years and has won awards at local, state, and regional competitions. Dr. Hayward received his D.M.A in clarinet performance from Rutgers University in New Jersey under the guidance of Jessica Phillips of the MET Opera.  He keeps an active private studio and completed a fifty-appearance conducting tour this past spring.  A former member of The Cadets, he gives back to the activity he loves by inspiring students to reach for new levels of excellence.
