After being interviewed by WPTV reporter TA Walker, Keiser University Flagship Campus student Ross MacPherson publicly unveiled his plan to introduce a cricket-based protein powder to the market as part of Keiser University’s SEAHAWK Tank Pitch Contest and won first place!

While pointing out that Crickets are an exceptional nutritional source, MacPherson, who hails from the United Kingdom shared that they have:

-Pound for pound double the amount of protein as beef

-6 times more omega 3’s than salmon

-More calcium than milk

-Use 2000x less land than cattle pound for pound

-Uses 2000x less water

-Produce 100x fewer greenhouse gases

-Grow 12x faster than livestock

-Peak nutrition far more nutritionally dense than the US best-selling meal replacement bar

MacPherson was one of eight students selected from Keiser University’s 18 state-wide campuses. Other innovations and business ideas included a smart mirror that will update its user with daily to-do-lists, etc., one of the world’s first cupcake and baked good vending machines, a company enabling graduates to customize their caps through the use of 3D technology, and more. Additional winners included:

  • 2nd PLACE: Daniel Vanegas – KU Pembroke Pines Campus – Business Idea: SureGrip, an adaptive equipment apparatus for those with upper extremity limitations.
  • 3rd PLACE: Maria Antonio Perez – Fort Lauderdale Campus – Business Idea: Bakery Bank, one of the world’s first cupcake and baked good vending machines
  • 4th PLACE: Simon Said – KU Flagship Campus – Business Idea – Cap-IT, a company enabling graduates to customize their caps using 3D technology
