We’re delighted to introduce Kayla Bianchi as the Student Editor for your Student Edition of Eagle’s Landing.  She is earning her BS in Social Media Communications and will be posting articles of interest to KU students.  Learn more about her here!

§  Why did you pick your major?  I chose my major because I have a passion for communication and I believe that social media will be around for years to come so why not learn an innovative form of communicating? The three main concepts in this program are business, marketing, and communication, which often go hand in hand in the business world, so learning them all together just makes sense.

§  What are your favorite social media sites and why?  My favorite social media sites are Facebook and Instagram. I use them most frequently and in conjunction with one another. I feel like combined, Facebook and Instagram are like my own personal autobiography, Facebook being the text, and Instagram being the illustration.

§  What do you like to do when you have down time?  I really enjoy going to the beach with my family. To me, there is no better feeling than my toes in the sand and feeling that cool ocean breeze.

§  Which Avenger would you want to be and why?  If I’m speaking in hopes and dreams, I would love to be as debonair and witty as Iron Man, but in all reality I am more like Captain America; just the typical, good hearted person, but a super hero nonetheless!

§  Do you have a favorite quote that inspires you or picks you up?  I have a few favorites, they seem to differ based on the type of day I’m having. But here is one that I try to think about daily.

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you can never see the shadow.” –Helen Keller

I really try to live my life looking on the bright side of things. Staying positive keeps me sane.

§  Who is your favorite musical artist?  I also have a few favorite artists and they are all of varied genres. Of course I love the classics like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Aretha Franklin but I also like more modern artists such as Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and Fall Out Boy. And yes, you will occasionally catch me jamming out to Britney Spears or NSYNC (don’t judge me).

§  What advice would you give to other students?  Stay focused. There are so many outside forces working against you to not finish college, i.e.: your job, your couch, or just life in general, but think about your future! Encourage yourself daily. You are awesome and should treat yourself as such. Always give your best effort, and when you get the time, pat yourself on the back for all the hard work you do. College is by no means easy, and most of us have more responsibilities on top of that, so give yourself credit for being the warrior that you are.
