Students in the BS in Sports Management & Fitness Technology program take the opportunity during their Exercise Physiology course to lead a book group based around research presented in, “The Sports Gene” by David Epstein.  Over coffee and donuts, (yes, exercise professionals eat donuts!) students discussed the sometimes controversial and engaging exploration of athletic success…are stars like Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Serena Williams genetic freaks put on earth to dominate their respective sports?  Or are they simply normal people who overcame their biological limitations through sheer force of will and obsessive training?   SMFT students tackle the great nature vs. nurture debate and study how far science has come in solving it.
