Preselect Option

The Preselect Option is an agreement between Keiser University Graduate School and affiliated university Didactic Programs in Dietetics (DPD).  The agreement between Keiser University and the affiliated DPD program grants the affiliated university DPD graduates the opportunity of early acceptance into the Keiser University Graduate School, Master of Science in Nutrition with Distance Learning internship (MSDI).  Only DPD graduates from universities having a signed Preselect Option affiliation agreement in place with Keiser University Graduate School are eligible to apply for early acceptance into the Master of Science in Nutrition with Distance Learning Internship.  Affiliated universities are listed below under Preselect Option and Affiliated University.

Benefits of the Preselect Option

The preselect option with Keiser University allows graduates from DPD undergraduate universities, with a signed Preselect Option affiliated agreement (refer to Preselect Option and Affiliated acceptance) into the MSDI program before the DICAS match process increasing chance of acceptance. Graduates may continue to apply through DICAS to other programs.

Financial

Candidates for the preselect option will enjoy some financial benefits. These include:

  • Keiser Application Fee Waiver ($55)
  • Renewable Community Partnership Scholarship up to 25% of the program tuition with satisfactory academic progress of a 3.0 GPA and continuous enrollment

Preselect Option Scholarship Process

  • Director of Financial Aid will review interns’ transcripts per term for continued compliance with GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Renewable Scholarship up to 25% of the program tuition renewed at the time interns renews financial aid packet

Preselect Option Admission Requirements

The preselect option guarantees placement to applicants providing they meet the admission requirements. Candidates applying for the MSDI Program must provide the following:

Official Transcripts

  • Minimum of an ACEND accredited bachelors, Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) degree from a regional accredited university
  • Verification Statement or Declaration of Intent
  • 3.0 GPA or higher

Personal Statement (word limit 1,000 words or less)

  • Personal statement will address applicants’ professional goals and ambitions for dietetic practice

Three Letters of Recommendation Submitted via DICAS

  • Recommend one letter from DPD director

Submit Rotation Schedule for Distance Learning Internship

  • Rotation schedule will show Medical Nutrition Therapy, food service and community rotations meeting the required supervised practice hours for rotation (located in student handbook)

Preselect Option Submission Date

The MSDI Preselect Option deadline submission dates for matching year:

  • January 10th (spring match)
  • August 29th (fall match)
  • Notification of acceptance will be provided by KU within two weeks

This submission requirements are the same as applying through DICAS for computer matching. Preselect option allows the potential student to accept placement if offered prior to the DICAS match. Students can continue to participate in the DICAS matching process.

Preselect Option Start Dates

The MSDI program has two start dates:

  • January
  • August

MSDI Program Residency

The first week of the starting semester, interns will meet in Ft. Lauderdale (or West Palm Beach) for a Residency Week. During Residency week, interns will have an opportunity to meet the faculty of the MSDI program. Faculty will review the rotation syllabi and guest speakers will provide information on the Graduate Online Writing Studio, online library and discussions surrounding the ACEND required knowledge and skills for entry-level practice. Faculty will be meeting via technology prior to Residency with accepted interns to the MSDI program discussing residency, closest airport to campus and lodging in the area. Interns are responsible for the cost of airfare, transportation to and from the campus, lodging and evening meals.

Number of MSDI Placement Slots

The MSDI program is accredited for a total 48 interns per year (24 interns per start date).  Under the preselect option, the program will allow:

  • 12 preselect potential applicants per start date (August and January) from affiliated universities
  • 12 open placement matches from DICAS for programs that do not have an affiliation agreement.
  • Unfilled placement matches from DICAS can be used for additional preselect potential applicants

Students can continue to participate in the DICAS matching process.

MSDI Rotation Schedule

The MSDI is a distance internship.  Interns can complete their rotation in their geographical area or anywhere in the United States/territory of the United States or military bases if rotation completed on base. The student handbook provides and example of a rotation schedule.

Applicants are encouraged to seek rotation sites in Medical Nutrition Therapy, food service and community. Any placement sites along with a signed preceptor form  should be submitted with the application submission. Faculty understands the challenges of locating preceptors and will assist the applicant once admitted to the program. ACEND Preceptor Locator website is on the website and in student handbook.

MSDI Supervised Practice Rotation Hours

Supervised practice hours are delineated:

  • 640 supervised practice hours in the area Medical Therapy Nutrition
  • 520 supervised practice hours in the area Community Nutrition
  • 160 supervised practice hours in the area Food Service Systems/Dietetic Management
