The Miami campus had its Aging in Place: “Still Going Strong” poster session.  Senior OTA students were asked, as part of a class activity, to interview an elder living in the community and perform a safety home assessment in order to determine if the elders were at risk of any preventable problems or accidents.  Additionally, the students designed and created useful tools and activities, or modified common household items to facilitate daily living or treat dysfunctions.  By assessing the obstacles that impede independent living, making recommendations, and creating assistive devices, these OTA students helped elders in the community live healthier and safer lives. The students also had a bake sale and a rose sale throughout the event in which proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
