The Port St. Lucie campus partnered with Murray Middle School (MMS) for the GEMS initiative (GEMS stands for Girls Excited about Math and Science.)  Ten female instructors presented at MMS on career opportunities in the math and science fields for women.  Over 100 eighth grade girls participated.  Following KU’s visit to MMS, the girls were asked to submit an essay.  Twenty-nine girls were selected to take part in the Keiser University field trip.  KU collaborated with Martin Health Systems and was able to provide a tour of the hospital and panel discussion with ten female professionals from the health care industry.  The trip was funded by a grant provided by the Education Foundation of Martin County.
