Melissa Girouard Aug. 2015

Melissa Girouard has begun her last semester as a Bachelor of Legal Studies student at the Lakeland campus, graduating in December.  She is a veteran who has excelled in her studies at Keiser University, while participating as an award winning member of the Lakeland Mock Trial Team in regional competitions.  Through the mentoring and guidance of two lawyers, who also happen to be her primary instructor and dean, Dr. Terri Rawasia and Dean Karen Steverson, respectively, she was inspired to apply to law school at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School where she has been accepted.  Upon finishing law school she plans to practice law, concentrating in the area of child advocacy.  The bonus is that Vocational Rehabilitation approved to pay her way through law school due to her academic and experiential achievements.

She loves Keiser, and what she admires most are the class sizes that run in the month-to-month modular format.  In her own words, she offers advice for other students, “The effort you put into your studies will translate into the pride you feel and the success you achieve when you complete your degree.”
