Tampa students from the Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology programs attended the Business of Biotech 2016 event held at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. The conference opened with a speech from the Tampa mayor, Bob Buckhorn, highlighting the growth of biotech in Tampa bay. During this conference, the students participated in networking with both biotechnology companies and pharmaceutical companies. They also attended seminars that introduced them to immuno-oncology and emerging trends in biotechnology.

The students met with Dr. Arie Belldegrun, the CEO and founder of Kite Pharma. Dr. Belldegrun has been involved with the foundation of many successful biotech and pharmaceutical companies. The students also observed a coffee chat between former ABC news correspondent, Sam Donaldson, and Dr. Belldegrun.  It was an eventful day and the students were exposed to the many careers offered in the biomedical and biotechnology communities. The Keiser biomedical and biotechnology programs looks forward to continuing participation in the Moffitt Business of Biotech conferences. The event was arranged by Biomedical Science Program Coordinator, Dr. ClareAnne Canfield.
