Students from Tampa’s Medical Assisting program were given a behind-the-scenes look at the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office. During their visit, students were shown various pathological procedures conducted by the Medical Examiner, and participated in a discussion regarding Forensic Pathology with Dr. Stephen Nelson. Students were also given the (voluntary) opportunity to view a real autopsy and identify the necessary paperwork and procedures that accompany medical investigations.  This rare opportunity was arranged by Medical Assisting Program Coordinator, Ms. Brenda Hannah.  At the conclusion of their visit, Medical Assisting students were able to identify that the skills they have learned at Keiser University are applicable to various areas within the healthcare field to include Medical Pathology and Autopsy Assistant.
