Lakeland students in the SMC program pitched their ideas to representatives from Main Street Bartow, Inc., a non-profit organization created to revitalize and strengthen the economy of downtown Bartow. At the beginning of the term, the class was divided into two teams and was assigned the task of creating a social media campaign for the organization. On the final night of class, members of the promotions committee from Main Street Bartow came to hear the proposals. The committee consisted of, the Executive Director Laura Mills Simpson, Board Member Jennifer Daniels and City Commissioner Trish Pfeiffer.

The students took ownership of the project and offered practical tips and strategies to help the organization bolster its social media efforts and connect with members of the community. They covered topics such as, branding, promotion and effectively using the appropriate social media platforms.
